Electric Fencing - Bloemfontein

PLEASE NOTE: An electric fence will not stop the criminal from entering, but it will give you an intrusion alarm, and of course makes it difficult to enter. We wire all our fences in a series connection for maximum security. Brought to you by Future Security Electric Fencing – Bloemfontein

Definition & C.O.C

Electric fencing is made up of multiple strands of wire powered by an energizer. When properly installed and maintained, the energizer creates intermittent electronic pulses of up to 10,000 volts.

There are certain rules and regulations, that every installer must abide by, but I will put in in a post at a later Stage.

Any homeowner who does not have a valid Certificate of Compliance, issued by a qualified electric fencing installer registered with the Department of Labour, can be held civilly and criminally liable for injuries by his fence.

We are proud to say that our installers got the necessary training, and are C.O.C certified.

Note: We only install quality products supplied by STAFIX & NEMTEK

Different Types of Electric Fencing

Basically, it’s divided into two main categories:  Permanent & Temporary(Strip Gazing/Farming) electric fences. We will only discuss Permanent Fencing.

Permanent Fencing is divided into Rural, and Urban Fencing. Rural Fencing will be your Freestanding farm fences and Game fences. In the urban areas(Town/City) you mostly get your Wall-Top Fencing. You do get freestanding fences, but it must abide by certain rules & regulations, and the most important rule is it must have a barrier fence, which makes it very expensive.

VERY IMPORTANT - Questions to ask before you choose your installer.

# Is he a certified Installer & where is the evidence(Certificate)?
# Will the fence be wired in a Serie circuit.(Maximunm Security purpose)?
# Will he supply a Certificate of Compliance?
# How long is he doing installations and ask for referances.

Crucial checkpoints on your Wall Top Electric Fence.

When your electric fence is installed, there are some points you might want to check with your installer.

  • Is the fence C.O.C compliant, in other words, when you sell your house will the fence pass, and a C.O.C certificate can be issued? Normally this certificate is an optional extra on the quotation.
  • An electric fence must be maintained and checked every 3 months. Some maintenance agreements can be discussed.
  • Did he/she show you the fence voltage on all your LIVE wires
  • Is the Danger sign boards all in place? Every 10m and on gates act.
  • Is the siren and strobe light working? Tested with a short between your life & earth?
  • Also, ask him if the earth spikes are adequate?
  • The lead wires must be covered in PVC conduits.
  • The energizer must be under a roof or weatherproof box.
  • Is your fence wired in series or parallel, for optimum safety series is the best?
There are still some other important points, but we will dive into them at a later stage.

Some Safety tips

Be safe always keep your fence clean of any vegetation, to prevent false alarms.

Your strobe light must be in the front of your house, or visible from the entrance of the property.

Never leave your fence off or disconnect the siren. If it’s faulty and you cannot find the fault, rather call us for help.

Your energizer must be in such a place easy to reach, without leaving the house in case of an alarm(Siren). Or ask your installer to connect a receiver for remote access.

Always assume the fence is on, and make sure it’s off when you work close to it.
